May is Birdathon Month - Join in the Fun!
May 1-31, 2009

The Birdathon is a great way to celebrate the arrival of spring migration and to get friends and family involved in one of America's fastest-growing pastimes. It is also a fundraising drive, and an important source of support for NYC Audubon's conservation, research, and education programs. Now more than ever, we need your help-and what better way to raise money than by getting out there and enjoying your favorite activity?

In honor of the 25th anniversary of NYC Audubon's Birdathon, we are extending the fun from a single day to an entire month! Get ready for a whole new Birdathon, offering lots of new activities to appeal to birders and nature lovers at all levels. We now have five different ways to participate!

New: 100 NYC Nature Experiences

Not interested in just checking birds off a list? We are now offering a new option for those who want to focus on the joy of being outdoors in the spring. The 100 NYC Nature Experiences List encourages Birdathon participants to get outside and wiggle their toes in the muck, watch a raptor feed its young, search for animal tracks, or identify a robin's nest, among others. It's a leave-no-trace scavenger hunt, appropriate for all ages.

Help NYC Win America's Birdiest City!

Birdathons are held nationwide during the same week in May, and have led to an official competition for the title of America's Birdiest City. In 2006, New York City captured first place in the Large East Coast City category with 193 species. Be a part of the action and help NYC win again in 2009!
