Birdathon and Beginnng Birdathon! - How to
Participate
Join in the fun of the Birdathon and help raise money for NYC Audubon's conservation and education programs. Bird on foot, on your bike or in your backyard. Everyone can be a birder in the Birdathon! Here's how it works: Register Registration for the Birdathon is FREE! By registering you will help us keep track of how many people are participating, and your results will provide valuable data on what bird species are recorded in NYC. Sign up online and tell us where you plan to go birding and what your fundraising goal is. You can even create your own website for the big day! Personalize it with photos, invite your friends to pledge their support, track your fundraising success and share your experience – it's fun and easy. After the event, we'd love to hear a report on your big day and a list of the species you saw. When you register, we'll send you an "I bird NY" t-shirt for free. Remember, only participants who register are eligible to win fabulous prizes like a sunset Eco-tour. Register now. Ask for Pledges Have your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors sponsor your day of birding. Before the Birdathon download a pledge sheet and ask your sponsors to pledge anywhere from .10, .25, $1 or $10 per bird species seen or a fixed amount from $10 to $100 or more. There are no minimum or maximum pledge amounts. Be sure to give your sponsors an estimate of how many species you expect to see. People are often surprised by how many species can be found in the city. Collecting pledges is not required but it is encouraged! For more help on securing sponsors, click here. Be a Sponsor You don't have to go birding to support the Birdathon. Sponsor a friend, birders in your borough, or the winning team of the City Birding Challenge. Pledge .10, .25, $1 or $10 per bird species seen or a fixed amount. Pledges can be made online through our secure website and all contributions are tax-deductible. With a donation of $25 or more you will receive a FREE, one-year membership in NYC Audubon complete with discounts on our trips and classes. After the event, you'll receive a report on the highlights of the Birdathon. Make your pledge today. Go Birding Come out and count! Bird on your own, with a friend, or in a group and bird like crazy for as many or as few hours as you want between midnight and midnight on May 12. Download a checklist to keep track of the bird species you see or hear. And remember, you can participate and be a sponsor.
