PSF Update - October 17, 2006


Dear PSF friends and volunteers,

This is the fourth update from the field, which will go over numbers for this week.

The total number of birds found so far this season is now 317, with only 45 injured. This past week alone, 76 birds were collected, 16 of which were injured.

The ratio of dead and injured birds for this season is as follows:

Dead birds:                85%

Injured birds:              15%

It is interesting to note that some high collision sites tend to be more deadly than others, with the World Financial Center being the least deadly, as noticed in other monitoring seasons. Hopefully, the research we are conducting this year will help us understand what makes a site deadlier than others.

Species wise, this week marked the arrival of the White-throated Sparrows (14), the Ruby-crowned Kinglet (12), the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (6) with a total of 24 species recorded.
