Spring
Spring Beginning Birding Class
This spring, NYC Audubon is offering its popular Beginning Birding Classes
taught by Starr Saphir. Right now, many birds are gathering in Central and
South America, preparing for their long, arduous northward journey to nesting
grounds. On their way, herons and egrets, shorebirds, vireos, warblers,
tanagers, and others will stop in our urban parks to rest and to feed.
Why not prepare to enjoy the spectacle?
The course consists of two evening meetings at the NYC Audubon office and
two weekend field trips. The first field trip will be to the Jamaica Bay
Wildlife Refuge following the first evening class, and the second will be
to Central Park, after the second class.
Spring Warbler Class
Experienced birder Joe Giunta, bird guide for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, will lead a class on the warblers of Central Park. This two-part session
(one class and one field trip) is for the advanced beginner who wants to master these beautiful, but hard-to-identify spring migrants.
Sketching in the Field with Wildlife Artist Alan Messer
Alan Messer will teach you the basics for drawing birds, plants, and landscapes. Alan is a well-known wildlife artist and illustrator whose
work appears in magazines, books and field guides. Sharpen your skills for field notes, nature journals and personal expression.
