Cal Vornberger’s courses will start you off in the world of digital photography or take you to the next level.

For the advanced digital photographer aspiring to create perfect, compelling digital images.  Cal will cover how to shoot in RAW format, how to use RAW conversion software for the highest quality results, and how to incorporate Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom and Capture One into a workflow that produces the highest quality results. Audubon’s Aviary Exhibit

Join NYC Audubon for a special evening of art and fellowship at the New-York Historical Society on March 14, celebrating the exhibit Audubon’s Aviary: Portraits of Endangered Species. Enjoy the exhibit at your own pace, or take part in a tour led by a museum docent. After the exhibit, join your fellow members for refreshments in the Museum Café. The evening will be hosted by NYC Audubon Executive Director Glenn Phillips, who researched and wrote the text for the exhibit guide.
Audubon's Aviary: Portraits of Endangered Species highlights birds that once flourished in American landscapes and soared in our nation's skies but are now either declining, threatened with extinction, or sadly gone forever. It also features success stories of birds that have rebounded or have been removed from the Endangered Species List. Visitors will also hear birdcalls produced in 3D by sound artist Charlie Morrow and Charles Morrow Productions based on field recordings by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This exhibit runs through March 16, so join us for a tour before it flies away! FREE for NYC Audubon DIRECT Members (arrive after 6:00 p.m. for free admission to New-York Historical Society)

New York Aquarium

Plum Beach Restoration Cleanup and Planting

Friday April 25 and Saturday April 26, 10am - 3pm
With help from National Park Service, NYCDEP, American Littoral Society, and many other groups, we expect to remove several tons of timbers and floatable debris from the entire site as well as plant over 100 beach plumb, shadbrush, and other shrub species, plus several hundred culms of beachgrass. This project will continue through April 27. Meet at the Plum Beach parking lot on the Belt Parkway near Knapp Street (Exit 9). Carpooling available. Free

Bald eagles, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and much more – all up close and personal – await visitors to Raptor Trust, one of the region’s most important bird rehabilitation centers. Our visit will include a short class on owls, featuring eight live species, taught by a professional educator. We might also meet with Dr. Len Soucy, owner and legendary rehabilitator, for a talk about the Raptor Trust’s history and mission. After lunch, we travel on to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Great Swamp’s 7,600 acres of varied habitat draw a wide range of migrants and nesting birds, including ring-necked duck, american kestrel, scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak, chipping sparrow, rusty blackbird, and american goldfinch. The Swamp also is home to river otter, mink, beaver, red fox, coyote, opossum, and cottontail rabbits. We’ll make the round trip in style, in a comfortable coach bus where you’ll have time to relax and chat with like-minded people.

Flying WILD is an exciting environmental education program of the Council for Environmental Education (the creators of Project WILD) designed for middle school students. The materials introduce students to bird conservation through hands-on classroom activities and school bird festivals. This workshops provides participants with a 358 page guide that includes 43 activities, everything you need to know to plan and conduct bird festivals, service-learning projects, and appendices covering cross-curricular connections, key bird education resources, glossary, and topic index. Activities are grouped as teacher-led, student-led, or volunteer-led, and list national science education standards, cross-curricular connections, and follow-up questions to assess learning objectives. The guide is only available through these official Flying WILD workshops. Activities can be modified for ALL AGE LEVELS.
