When You Support NYC Audubon, You Support Scientific Research

NYC Audubon recently assumed a leading role in the proceedings at the American Ornithologists’ Union, the largest bird-related professional organization, which convened this August in Philadelphia.
Director of Conservation Susan Elbin, Executive Director Glenn Phillips, and Chris Sheppard (American Bird Conservancy) organized a focused paper session on barriers to migration, which Elbin moderated. The talks were well attended and generated enthusiasm among the presenters and attendees.
Elbin, Kathy Parsons (Manomet Center for Conservation), and Nellie Tsipoura (NJ Audubon Society) also organized a symposium on challenges facing colonial waterbirds of the Northeast seaboard. Harbor Herons, one of NYC Audubon’s cornerstone programs, figured prominently in three of the six presentations.
Finally, Elbin presented a paper and also moderated a session that highlighted issues of invasive species, urban islands, human population density, climate change, and contaminants.
