On Tuesday, September 29, NYC Audubon will honor Joseph H. Ellis and Don Riepe at our annual Fall Roost Benefit.
The Fall Roost Benefit and Auction raises funds for NYC Audubon's conservation and education
programs in New York City.
A longtime member of our Advisory Council, Joe is an avid birder and philanthropist. Since retiring from Goldman, Sachs & Co., he has become a valuable
advisor to many conservation groups. He jump-started the international program for The Nature Conservancy in New York State while serving as their
Vice Chairman of the Board. Currently he serves on the National Council of the World Wildlife Fund and the Board of Rare Conservation. Joe has also written
two books, including the forthcoming Birds in Wood and Paint: American Miniature Bird Carvings and Their Carvers, 1900-1970 (University Press of New
England, October 2009).
Don has been on the Board of NYC Audubon since 1990, and is known throughout the city as a role model for service and grassroots activism. He has worked
on marine habitat and environmental issues in Jamaica Bay for more than 30 years, both as a private citizen and as a National Parks employee working throughout
Gateway National Recreation Area. Currently, Don is the Jamaica Bay Guardian for the American Littoral Society. He is also a member of the Bird Hazard
Task Force at JFK Airport and the Board of Rockaway Waterfront Alliance.
Join us as we celebrate Joe and Don's achievements with NYC Audubon's members and friends at a cocktail-buffet reception in the Lake Room of the Central Park Boathouse.
The evening promises good food, original artwork, and a few fun surprises. We hope to see you there!
