Field Guide to New York City

New York's five boroughs sit atop one of the most naturally biodiverse sites in North America, directly under the Atlantic migratory flyway, at the mouth of a 300-mile-long river, and on three islands -- Manhattan, Staten, and Long. Leslie Day, author of the Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City, will present a journey through her book and through the natural world of our city with photos, maps, and paintings from her book.

Birding at the Intersection of Art and Science

The universal appeal of birds and the pleasures and challenges of creating a field guide to birds. Accompanying his talk with slides, he begins with his childhood drawings and follows the gradual development of his ideas and the struggle to combine the artistic and scientific aspects of bird identification into a single book. David is the author and illustrator of the comprehensive The Sibley Guide to Birds and its related regional field guides, and other books such as Sibley's Birding Basics. He has written and illustrated articles for numerous publications and books. He is also a bird tour leader who lives in Concord, Massachusetts.
