In his new book The Life of the Skies, New Yorker and New York Times contributor Jonathan Rosen traces the history of America as seen through the eyes of a birdwatcher—and explores the importance of birding to the more than 46 million Americans who engage in it every year.

Join noted wildlife photographer Kevin T. Karlson for a whirlwind journey from the scenic coastlines and mountains of the Kenai Peninsula to the barren expanse of Alaska’s Arctic Coastal Tundra. In this frozen world of extremes, many of the world’s most intriguing birds and wildlife choose to breed and raise their young. Life and death struggles unfold as creatures interact with nature in one of the most undisturbed places on earth.
