Look Around New York City is NYC Audubon’s publication for children in 4th through 6th grade. It is distributed to about 850 classrooms and nature centers throughout the City. Look Around has been published for over 20 years under the leadership of Naola Gersten-Woolf and the support of a volunteer staff. It features articles by professionals as well as kids. There are fun facts, mini-quizzes, interviews, plus resources for adults to get ideas for fun, City-based nature activities. Look Around aims to get City kids involved in their environment by promoting nature appreciation and preservation.
In 2007 – 2008 Look Around tells how some endangered and threatened plants and animals in New York City are being helped to recover in numbers.
For Kids:
Scientists and nature-lovers team up to protect and improve the living conditions of plants and animals that were or still are in danger of becoming extinct. Even kids are working to make New York City’s environment a better place for these species to live.
While you might think that pigeons and subway rats are the only sign of wildlife in New York City, Look Around shows you that there is so much more to discover. Look Around will teach you that endangered species make their homes right here in New York City.
