Look Around New York City is NYC Audubon's publication for children in 4th through 6th grade.
It is distributed to about 850 classrooms and nature centers throughout the City. Look Around has
been published for almost 25 years by a volunteer team of writers, artists and editors. It features
articles by professionals as well as kids. There are fun facts, mini-quizzes, interviews, plus resources
for adults to get ideas for fun, City-based nature activities. In the spirit of "no child left inside",
Look Around aims to get City kids involved in their environment by promoting nature appreciation and
preservation.
In 2008 – 2009 Look Around tells about some hot-button environmental issues for NYC as
well as the decline in the numbers of frogs. It gets kids involved in nature journaling:
observing and then writing, drawing or photographing the natural world wherever they are.
For Kids:
While you might think that pigeons and subway rats are the only sign of wildlife in New York City,
Look Around shows you that there is so much more to discover. If you always notice the wildlife
or plants around you, then it's time to try nature journaling. Look Around will show you fun ways to do it.
Kids can work to make New York City's environment a better place for all species (including humans)
to live. Look Around has some hot-button actions you can take!
You know the line that goes," It' not easy being green"? Find out why real frogs are having a
